What
is soft water?
Utah has some of the best water in the nation--but it’s
hard water--that is, full of minerals, like calcium and
magnesium.
You can’t see the minerals in a
glass of drinking water, but you can see them in the white
residue left behind when water evaporates.
You’ll see and feel hard-water
mineral deposits on your dishes, shower glass, kitchen and
bathroom fixtures and taps, kitchen and laundry room appliances--and
even on your laundry, skin, and hair.
A Superior Water Softener “mechanically”
removes hard-water mineral deposits--which means spot-free
dishes, shower glass, fixtures, taps, and appliances--as
well as whiter whites, brighter brights, softer skin, and
more manageable hair!

How
does a water softener work?
A Superior Water Softener is comprised of four basic parts:
1) Mineral tank:
The mineral tank is partially filled with resin beads
2) Valve
The valve is attached to the top of the mineral tank and
is plumbed into the main water line of your house
3) Brine tank
The brine tank sits next to the mineral tank and is filled
with salt water
4) Resin beads
As water runs through the mineral tank, resin beads attract
and cling to the minerals in the water and allow the now-mineral-free
water (also known as soft water) to pass through
After a day or two, the resin beads
become saturated with mineral deposits and need to be recharged.
During the night, the valve draws brine from the brine tank
and flushes the resin beads with brine. This removes the
mineral deposits from the resin beads and sends it down
the drain. The valve flushes out any remaining brine from
the mineral tank with fresh water and the system is ready
to go again.

What
is so great about soft water?
We spend valuable resources building and maintaining our
homes. Hard-water mineral deposits actually devalue of our
homes and decrease our quality of life by:
• encrusting kitchen and bathroom fixtures and taps
• clogging pipes, water heaters, dishwashers, and
washing machines
• leaving our skin dry and itchy and our hair dull
and flat
Removal of hard-water
mineral deposits can be done either “chemically”
or “mechanically”.
“Chemically” means buying chemical products
and trying to solve the problem yourself:
• buying jet-dry products to scrub away the hard-water
mineral deposits on your glasses and dishes
• buying lime-away products to scrub away the hard-water
mineral deposits on your shower glass, fixtures, and taps
• buying endless laundry additives to whiten your
whites and brighten your brights
• buying endless personal care products to address
your dry, itchy skin and dull, flat hair
• hiring plumbers to unclog pipes and service people
to repair appliances
...which is a lot of work and money! (What is your time
worth?)
“Mechanically”
means, with the same money you are already spending on chemical
products, you can install a Superior Water Softener, that
will “mechanically” remove hard-water mineral
deposits--with no effort on your part!
In fact, you’ll
be pleasantly surprised to see your chemical products bill
drop as much as 50-75%. (And doesn’t cutting chemical
use in your home feel good?)
Furthermore,
dishwashers and washing machines using mineral-free (or
soft) water require less soap to do their job--which will
save you a lot of money, too. (You’ll find yourself
using less shampoo and lotion, too!)
The cost/benefit
analysis is simple: Over time it costs less to purchase
a Superior Water Softener than it does to buy chemical and
personal care products. A Superior Water Softener can actually
save you money while helping to maintain and improve the
value of your home, as well as the quality of your life.

The
FREE 4-week trial sounds good, but what's the catch?
There is no catch. Superior Water and Air sends a professional
plumber to your home to install a Superior Water Softener--at
our expense (we even bring the salt). You are then free
to use our product for 4 weeks--without cost or obligation.
If you decide that our product is not for you, then we remove
it--also at our expense. We will leave the plumbing intact
for a future installation. Why in the world do we do this?
Because that’s one of the ways we advertise. More
than half of our new business is referrals from satisfied
customers. We’re so confident that, after you’ve
tried Superior Water in your home, and experienced the professionalism
and courtesy of our company, you’ll want both our
product and service--and so will your friends and neighbors.

What
is a water purification?
The water that comes out of your tap has been purified by
your water district–but that does not mean that the
water that comes out of your tap is pure.
The water that comes out of your refrigerator
water dispenser is filtered–but that does mean pure.
Both still contain many unwanted elements.
Cities are required by law to reduce
the presence of unwanted elements below a specified PPM
(parts per million) rating--which does not result in pure
water.
Heavy metals, bacteria, chlorine, cysts,
and other substances are present in the water that comes
out of your taps (and refrigerator water dispenser)--often
resulting in unpleasant tastes and odors, not to mention
health risks.
A Superior Water Purification System
uses a 4-stage filtration system to remove:
• sediment
• dirt
• chlorine
• salts
• metals
• chemicals
• micro-organisms
• bad tastes
• odors
Water from a Superior Water Purification
System is up to 98% pure–and tastes great–rivaling
even bottled water! (And who wants to lug and store that!)

What
is reverse osmosis?
Reverse-osmosis is the process by which a Superior Water
Purification System removes even the smallest impurities
from your water.
Basically, a Superior Water Purification
System employs a semi-permeable membrane that allows water--but
not impurities--to pass through--which means only the purest,
safest, best-tasting water reaches you and your family.

What
is air purification?
According to the EPA, the air inside your home is 5 to 100
times more polluted than the air outside.
Because we build air-tight homes now,
we also breath re-circulated rather than fresh air. Because
we seldom (if ever) clean our duct-work, we’re breathing
air that circulates through that dirty duct-work as much
as 50 times a day!
• No wonder our houses are dusty!
• No wonder we have allergies!
• No wonder our houses sometimes smell funny!
• No wonder our families sometimes suffer from “sick-house”
syndrome!
Single-room air purifiers are all the
rage right now–they can cost hundreds of dollars–and
you need one for every room–which can add up to thousands
of dollars.
Superior Water and Air will clean your
duct-work with exclusive, patented roto-brush technology–and
shoot before and after video tape–then install a WHOLE
HOUSE AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEM that combines state-of-the-art
ozone + ultraviolet technology–with a QC electrostatic
never-change-again furnace filter–with a lifetime
warranty–for 24/7 clean, fresh air.

What
is "Safe Water for Utah Kids"?
When Mark Lambourne’s son came home from elementary
school four years ago complaining about the taste of the
water coming out of his classroom drinking fountain, Mark
did what he felt he should do--he filtered the water--much
to the delight of his son’s teacher.
It wasn’t long before all the other teachers in the
school wanted the same. So Mark filtered the water in every
drinking fountain in the elementary school.
When his son moved on to the junior high
school, Mark filtered the water in all those drinking fountains,
too--and has personally maintained the filters in both schools
for the past three years.
Mark's family owns Superior Water and Air in West Valley
City, Utah.
When Mark read all the recent press coming
out of Washington, D.C. about poor water quality and lead
levels possibly affecting low student test scores, he made
a personal vow that soon became a family and company goal--to
filter more than 18,000 drinking fountains in more than
750 Utah public schools--at no charge to the schools or
taxpayers.
The generous donation was gratefully
accepted in June by both Utah Governor Olene Walker and
Deputy for Education Dr. Darrell White, who put Superior
on the agenda of the July meeting of all 40 Utah school
superintendents, where Superior General Manager Rob Anderson
made the presentation (which Dr. White kindly endorsed).
Dr. Stephen Ronnenkamp, Superintendent
of the Granite School District, Utah’s largest school
district with 70,000 students, was the first to jump up
after Anderson’s presentation and accept the generous
offer.
Anderson estimates the project will
be completed by the end of 2005.
“We couldn’t do it without the generous help
of our co-sponsor Standard Plumbing Supply, who is donating
the lines,” says Lambourne.
Superior’s local media partner, CBS affiliate KUTV
and its General Manager Dave Phillips in Salt Lake City,
have lent both media and television production support.
Superior has formed a non-profit organization called “Safe
Water for Utah Kids” to monitor and maintain the school
drinking fountain program. Anderson is busy aligning corporate
sponsors to help defray the on-going expense of filter replacement.
Superior Water and Air was founded by Mark’s father
Jake Lambourne nearly 50 years ago, who at the age of 74
, still comes to the office every day.
“Based on current trends,” says Jake Lambourne,
“It is only a matter of time before the government
mandates water quality in our schools. I like the
idea of Utah taking the lead and setting the example for
the nation--and I like the idea of Superior Water and Air
being part of that.”
